Making a Splash and Splurging on Slots: Our Bermuda Day Four Adventure
Day four in Bermuda started bright and early. We had an excursion booked for 8 a.m., which meant I needed to wake up extra early to organize everything for everyone. I didn't mind one bit, since sleeping late is a rarity for me anyway. Once we were all up and ready, we met up with Tom and Michelle’s family, along with Emery and Dylan, and headed out for our Devil's Isle Cruise Beach Snorkel excursion.
The excursion was run by K.S. Watersports, and our crew—Captain Dean, Captain Jason, Brandi, Sam, and Roger—was fantastic. On the ride out to the island, we listened to some great commentary about the history of Bermuda and local lore. We learned that Bermuda actually has more shipwrecks per square mile than anywhere else in the world, which makes perfect sense given its old nickname, the "Devil's Isles." I also spotted several of my club friends on the boat, which was a fun surprise!
Once we anchored at the island hideaway, we grabbed our snorkeling gear. This was the first time my four youngest children had ever snorkeled. Grace was not a fan. She really does not like water, but I was so proud of her for trying! She found a nearby shallow spot and planted herself right there. Ryland and Priscilla, on the other hand, absolutely loved seeing all the vibrant coral and fish. In fact, He-Man Brian actually swam right out to the snorkeling spot with the two youngest girls tucked under his arms!
Afterward, Brian, the two youngest girls, and I popped over to the secluded little beach. We had the area completely to ourselves to play for a bit before it was time to head back. The ride back was incredibly relaxing, with great music playing and drinks flowing. The only thing I would have changed about the entire excursion would be to make it longer.
Getting back on the ship was a breeze. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the pool, followed by some time on the dance floor and dinner in the Aquarius Dining Room. Dancing and dinner have officially become our favorite daily activities.
Later that evening, Emery and I convinced Nana, Ryland, and Michelle to join us at the club. That reunion was short-lived, though; they left rather quickly because the music was a bit too loud and raunchy. Just when Emery and I were about to call it a night, too, Dylan showed up with shots. Talk about a nice save! Then Brian showed up on the dance floor, and suddenly, it was a party again.
After dancing and drinking for a bit, we decided to check out the casino. I had never gambled before and always thought it seemed like a major waste of money. Dylan generously slipped Emery and me $100 to play with, so we hit the slot machines—and completely bombed. While we were playing, we were approached by a slightly creepy, drunk guy who insisted on teaching us how to gamble, despite loudly bragging that he had already lost all of his own money. He kept insisting it was "so fun!" We played along for a few minutes, but once we lost $25, I was officially done. I just couldn't sit there and watch money disappear; it actually made me feel a little sick to my stomach!
Dylan and Emery headed out, and since Brian was busy at the poker table, I pulled up a chair at the bar. I was the only woman there, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but I stayed and listened to the rambles of the drunk men around me. Let's just call it field research! While I was sitting there, our "gambling teacher" wandered over and ended up getting cut off by the bartender. No surprise there! We stayed all the way until closing time, and the best part? Brian walked away up $130!
All in all, it was another unforgettable, eventful day.
