Disneyland Paris – My 50th Birthday Dream Come True

My First Full Day In Paris, Disneyland!

May 18th. A date that already held significance, but this year it shimmered with extra magic – it was my 50th birthday, and I was spending it at Disneyland Paris!

The journey began long before I even stepped foot on French soil, and for that, I owe a massive thank you to the incredible Danielle from Platinum Mouse. Planning a trip like this, especially with all my… let’s call them enthusiastic ideas and endless questions, couldn’t have been easy. But Danielle handled it all with grace and expertise, truly making her a phenomenal travel agent. Thank you, Danielle, you’re a star!

My special day dawned early, and I eased into it with a luxurious soak in the gorgeous hotel bathroom. Then, while Brian, my wonderful and incredibly patient husband, enjoyed a few more precious moments of sleep, I quietly got ready, embracing the day in my most cheerful pink attire. I knew I’d be putting him through his paces, navigating Disneyland Paris's wonders and the city's charm over the next week. While ADHD can sometimes be a whirlwind, I knew this trip would be one of those glorious times where its boundless energy would be a definite advantage. Sleep? What’s sleep when there’s magic to be made?

Once Brian was awake and ready to go, we took full advantage of one of the incredible perks of staying at the Disneyland Hotel: early park entry. Walking straight into Disneyland Park, without even a hint of a security line, felt like pure VIP treatment. That’s the beauty of the Disneyland Hotel – it’s seamlessly integrated into the park, offering these little touches of luxury that truly elevate the experience.

Our first mission? Iconic castle photos, captured before the daytime crowds descended. And of course, a meet-and-greet with the one and only Donald Duck – a classic for a reason! A quick hop, skip, and a jump later, we snagged some imposing shots with Darth Vader before grabbing Brian his perfect souvenir: Paris Disney Stitch ears. Adorable!

Then it was time for thrills! We dove straight into the heart-pounding excitement of Hyperspace Mountain and the immersive adventure of Star Tours. Feeling suitably exhilarated, we somehow stumbled upon the absolutely perfect spot to watch the parade on Main Street U.S.A. We settled in, savoring a delicious quiche and a sweet treat, all washed down with strong, delightful espresso. After the vibrant parade, another classic called our name: the Croque Monsieur. Oh. Yum. I even managed to snag a fun photo of Mickey in his slightly spooky attire – a delightful contrast to the celebratory atmosphere. Next up, we set sail on the legendary Pirates of the Caribbean. As we disembarked, a lucky coincidence! We spotted Miguel, and the vibrant energy of a Coco performance was just beginning – something I had secretly hoped to experience. We then ticked off another must-do: Peter Pan’s Flight. I have to say, the queue seemed to move remarkably quickly compared to other times I’ve ridden it – maybe the birthday magic was already at play! A quick refuel was in order, and a nacho concoction made with Doritos hit the spot. While I was in line, the delightful Cowboy Characters spotted my dress and showered it with compliments, leading to a fun photo opportunity. We then immersed ourselves in the whimsical twists and turns of Alice’s Curious Labyrinth. It was such a blast getting delightfully lost and finding countless fun photo ops, including a fantastic panoramic shot of the entire park from the top of the Queen of Hearts’ castle. The traditional Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups were next, followed by a celebratory glass of champagne and a charming photo with Belle. We couldn’t resist one more journey through the ghostly delights of Phantom Manor before it was time for a change of scenery.

A quick hop over to Walt Disney Studios Park (again, bypassing security thanks to our hotel stay – a true blessing!) and we were ready for more adventures. First up: Crush’s Coaster! Oh. My. Goodness. I absolutely loved this one. It’s instantly shot up into my top favorite Disney rides. It was fast, it was spinny, it was pure joy! We then ticked off some more Studio Park essentials: Ratatouille: The Adventure (so immersive!), Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, and of course, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Now, as you might have gathered from all the picture-taking I’ve mentioned (you're practically reading a photography-themed box of memories here, aren't you?!), I adore ride photos. They’re the perfect, often hilarious, souvenir. So, naturally, I was buzzing with excitement to see our terrified faces plummeting down the Tower of Terror. We practically sprinted to the photo viewing screens, giddy with anticipation, only to have our hopes dashed. Our photo, the one we were so eager to see, was completely ruined. The entire front row of teenagers had decided it would be hilarious to hold up their middle fingers for the camera. My heart sank. To add to the frustration, we had used our precious one-time-per-ride skip-the-line pass for the Tower of Terror, and with our special birthday dinner reservation looming, there was absolutely no time to endure the long standby line for another go. Dejected but determined, I approached a nearby Cast Member and explained our situation – the ruined photo, the used pass, the ticking clock. With a sprinkle of that famous Disney magic, the Cast Member listened sympathetically and then, to our utter delight, whisked us through a back entrance, straight onto the ride for an immediate do-over! And that photo? It was perfect – a gloriously terrified, wonderfully memorable snapshot of birthday fun!

After our photo redemption and thrill-seeking, we decided to head back to our room for a little freshen-up and a change into something a bit more special for our dinner reservation at the highly anticipated La Table de Lumière. My fingers were tightly crossed that the early booking I’d made would grant us one of the coveted tables with a view of the castle during the fireworks spectacular. Upon checking in at the restaurant, my wonderful husband discreetly whispered my birthday wish to the host. Moments later, our hostess led us through the elegant dining room, almost to the very last section, and then… seated us right next to a window with a perfect, unobstructed view of the breathtaking Sleeping Beauty Castle! The atmosphere in La Table de Lumière was sophisticated and utterly charming, and the food was simply divine.

Here’s a taste of the culinary delights I indulged in:

  • Mushroom velouté: A creamy dream, enhanced with peppered Isigny cream, the satisfying crunch of sourdough bread croutons, and the subtle nuttiness of toasted hazelnut chips.
  • Seared fillet of sole: Perfectly cooked and complemented by a vibrant yogurt and saffron emulsion, fresh Mediterranean vegetables, and a luscious creamy celery sauce.
  • Enchanted Ball Cake: A whimsical and decadent creation featuring white chocolate ganache, a delicate vanilla pear insert, and a light and airy Dacquoise biscuit.
  • And then… a special Birthday Dessert!

As we savored our exquisite meal, the sky outside began to glow, and then… the fireworks started! Witnessing the dazzling Disney Illuminations show from the comfort of our table, with that incredible view of the castle bathed in light, was an absolute dream come true. But the magic didn’t stop there. Seated at the table across from us was the lovely family we had briefly chatted with the night before! As the restaurant began to empty, their mom and I enjoyed a delightful conversation, exchanging stories and laughter between tables. We even took a photo together! She was such a warm and wonderful person, and we exchanged Instagram handles, hoping our paths would cross again.

After they finished their dinner, Brian and I were the only ones left in the restaurant. Suddenly, the entire waitstaff gathered around our table, their voices rising in a beautiful rendition of "Joyeux Anniversaire!" Our waiter presented me with a special birthday cake, complete with a sparkling candle, and another incredibly kind server gifted me a beautifully ornate "Declaration of Birthday" scroll. It was, without a doubt, the most perfect and heartwarming birthday moment. As if that wasn’t enough, they even sent us home with our leftover sole and extra pastries – talk about feeling spoiled!

My 50th birthday at Disneyland Paris was more than just a trip; it was a fairytale come to life. From the thrill rides to the enchanting parades, the delicious food to the unexpected connections, every moment was filled with magic and joy. It was a day I will cherish forever, a testament to the power of dreams and the wonderful people who help make them come true. Here’s to many more magical adventures! Stay tuned for more
