Art, History, and More Champagne
May 20th. The date etched in my mind as the day our Parisian adventure officially began. As an artist with a soul that drinks in beauty, and my wonderful husband, Brian, a true devotee of history, we knew Paris would be a feast for our senses. And oh, how right we were.
Our day began before the city even fully awoke, with a crisp 6:30 am start for a two-hour photoshoot with Your Paris Photo. The early hour was a stroke of genius! We glided through a virtually empty Trocadero, the Eiffel Tower standing majestic and serene in the soft morning light. Our stroll continued along the tranquil Seine, the water reflecting the awakening sky like a shimmering mirror. A quick cab ride whisked us away to the elegant gardens and around the imposing grandeur of the Louvre, all before the throngs of tourists arrived. It felt like we had the city all to ourselves, a truly magical experience.
After our enchanting photoshoot, it was back to the hotel to liberate myself from the three glorious gowns and accompanying heels. Now, about those heels… let me tell you, they almost stayed on! I was wearing my secret weapon: Pashion Footwear. These aren't just any heels; they are a revelation! With a simple click, the heels detach, transforming into incredibly comfortable flat sandals. Seriously, a game changer for photoshoots, special occasions, or even a full day of exploring (though I opted for flats for the rest of our adventure). If you're looking for footwear that combines elegance and practicality, you HAVE to check them out at PashionFootwear.com and use code ANGELAD for 20% off. Trust me on this one!
Next on our agenda was a timed reservation at the iconic Eiffel Tower. Excitement bubbled as we ascended in the (slightly nerve-wracking) elevator all the way to the top. Packed in like sardines, it felt a bit like a utility elevator, but you know me, I can strike up a conversation with just about anyone! We spent a good thirty minutes in line, chatting with our fellow travelers. We met a delightful older couple embarking on a European cruise the very next day, their tales of global adventures painting a picture of true couple goals for Brian and me. Then there was a radiant woman from Canada, on a solo trip while her house underwent renovations – what a thoughtful husband! I loved hearing about her work and our shared experiences as mothers. The company truly made the slightly claustrophobic ride enjoyable.
Reaching the top, my fear of heights did kick in a little! I bravely toasted with the complimentary champagne at the bar (because, when in Paris!), then quickly retreated one level down to the enclosed viewing platform where I felt much more secure. I even managed a quick call to my mom and my daughter (who, bless her heart, answered while in class – oops!).
By this time, our stomachs were rumbling, so we grabbed a truly delicious burger from a nearby food truck and found a spot to relax and enjoy it in the vast expanse of the Champs de Mars. It was a perfect, unhurried Parisian moment. A little later, as we wandered the charming streets, a cute red café beckoned. Coffee? Mais oui!
Our next stop was a dream come true for this art lover: the Musée d'Orsay. Housed in a stunning former railway station, the architecture itself is a masterpiece. But the art! Oh my, so many breathtaking pieces. I was absolutely thrilled to stumble upon an entire section dedicated to my absolute favorite art style: Art Nouveau. For me, it's the epitome of beauty – the asymmetry, the organic, natural forms, the intricate patterns, the depictions of beautiful women with their flowing hair and graceful lines... I could have stayed there for hours, lost in the enchanting world of this style. (Although I didn't get to see any pieces by the masters I particularly adore, like Mucha and Klimt, it's definitely on my list for next time!)
With our artistic souls thoroughly nourished, we strolled along the Seine towards the magnificent Pont Alexandre III. Bathed in the glorious sunlight, it was a truly breathtaking sight. We then headed to Place de la Concorde, where we were met with another delightful surprise. Two talented musicians had set up, playing and singing along to popular music through a speaker. It created such a wonderful, joyful atmosphere! I was thrilled when they started playing ABBA – it was the perfect soundtrack to our Parisian afternoon. Let's be honest, in my head, ABBA is my soundtrack often. After enjoying their impromptu concert, we sat and reflected in the Tuileries.
As dusk began to paint the sky, we ended our incredible first day with a delightful dinner at La Favorite, a charming pink flower café conveniently located right next to our hotel. It was the perfect way to cap off a day filled with art, history, laughter, and the undeniable magic of Paris. This city has already captured our hearts, and I can't wait to see what other adventures await us!
