The Reformer, My Soul, and a New Neighborhood Gem
I have a classic love-hate relationship with exercise. I absolutely love it once I’m in a solid routine, but let’s be real: finding consistent time in my daily life is a struggle. Often, if I can’t do it perfectly, I just choose not to do it at all. My "all or nothing" brain is a work in progress!
It wasn't always this way, though. Throughout my entire youth and adolescence, I was constantly moving—I danced and cheered most days of the week. I even carried that energy into my 30s as a cheer coach. But somewhere along the way, my 40s hit, and the consistency just... vanished. My 40s have had very little in the way of a regular exercise schedule, and I’ve really felt that shift.
Determined to find that spark again and get moving, I decided to step outside my comfort zone. This past fall, I took an incredible heels class with Justin at Tami Gee’s. It was amazing, and I felt so energized, but life happened, and I haven't been able to work it back into the schedule. However, that class gave me something even better than a dance routine: it introduced me to Laise.
I had already heard the name "Laise" through the grapevine because my other friend raves about her constantly. As it turns out, she’s a Pilates instructor, and yesterday I finally had my first session with her.
Let me just say: it was empowering. It wasn't just about body strengthening; it felt like soul strengthening, too. There is something about the flow of the Pilates machines that allowed me to go so much deeper into the exercises and stretches than I ever could on a mat.
I’ve been learning that Pilates is so much more than just a workout; it’s basically a tune-up for your entire existence. It focuses on that "powerhouse" (your core), which helps with everything from better posture to finally getting rid of those pesky back aches we all seem to carry around. It’s low-impact, which my joints definitely appreciate, but it builds a type of long, lean strength that makes you feel like you could conquer a mountain—or at least a very busy Monday.
I walked out feeling strong, flexible, and surprisingly centered. In my humble opinion, everybody needs to go see Laice. And lucky for all of us, she is opening a brand-new studio right in our backyard! You can find her upstairs at Finksburg Plaza.
